Who are We?
At Wellington Presbyterian Church, our name says a lot about how we pursue our passion to be a community of grace that connects deeply with Christ, authentically with one another and lovingly with the world.
"Wellington"- We are committed to being a community church...
Nearly 30 years ago, Wellington Presbyterian Church was started to establish a Reformed, Gospel-preaching church that would focus on making and growing followers of Christ in the Western Communities. Over 90% of our members live in the Western Communities and it is these communities that are our primary focus in loving outreach. We want to become a church that loves our community well both in word and deed.
"Presbyterian"- We are committed to being a Reformed Presbyterian church...
Reformed means we are not making up our beliefs as we go. Though we will always be learning and growing, we do have rootedness in our beliefs, not only through the ancient creeds but also through our church's doctrinal commitments – the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. The Westminster Confession was produced in the 17th century in England. It was written by hundreds of pastors and elders who met over a period of several years. The goal was to unite the church of Jesus by a unified expression of doctrine, worship, and church government. Though the language of this creed is old, it remains an incredibly helpful resource for the church as it has been judged by over 450 years of Christians to accurately summarize the core doctrines proclaimed in Scripture.
Presbyterian means we are not autonomous. We have accountability and partnership with our like-minded churches through our denomination - the Presbyterian Church in America - at both a regional (Presbytery) and a national (General Assembly) level.
"Church"- We are committed to be a missional community of Christ...
We are a church devoted to reaching the western communities with the gospel of Christ. We believe that the mission of every church is to see the worship of God spread by making "disciples" - followers of Christ. So we are a church that is passionate to pray, plan, and pursue multiple avenues and opportunities to proclaim to our community the gospel of Christ.
While we "dream big" of what we hope God will do, our desire is not to "be big." Rather, if God should grant fruit to our ministry, our passion will be to always remain an authentic community that is passionate to plant other churches that become missional communities of Christ to more and more of our neighbors and friends.
