What is a Team?
What is a “team approach” to our connecting vision?

A “team approach” at Wellington Presbyterian Church means many things, but at core it includes:
1st- That each team has both a task focus and a relational focus.
Task Focus→ These are the activities and responsibilities that the team is responsible for.
Relational Focus→ Each team sees itself as a caring community for each member of the team. Time is spent at each team meeting in relationship building, praying for one another, sharing from God’s Word together, etc.
2nd- Each team commits itself to fulfilling the vision and values of Wellington Presbyterian Church as stated in our Vision Statement and Ministry Practices.
Each Team has a Unique contribution to the Shared Vision→ Each team is committed to playing a unique part in fulfilling the over-all vision of the church.
- The team’s vision is defined by the larger vision of the church. Some good ministry opportunities will need to be passed by because they don’t directly contribute to the overall vision of the church. Each team is to prayerfully stay focused on how it helps WPC achieve our larger vision.
- The team’s vision must be different enough from other team’s to add something unique and different that is necessary for the church as a whole to fulfill its vision.
Each Team is Committed to a Common Biblical Approach to Ministry → Each team’s ministry is guided in principle and practice by a Biblical approach to doing the ministry detailed in our “Ministry Practices”.
3rd- Each team is asked to “own” that area of ministry as their own under the leadership and oversight of the Session/Pastoral Staff.
- While the Session in partnership with the Pastoral Staff maintain final oversight of all WPC ministries, practical responsibility over all aspects of the ministry and initiative to develop the ministry further is entrusted to each team for its specific area.
- The Session in partnership with the Pastoral Staff will work to equip each team, resource each team, and provide needed leadership to keep each team focused on our vision and common ministry approach.
4th- Each team should have a team leader, an elder liaison, and at least 2 team members to work together to “own and operate” the ministry entrusted to them.
Team Leader→ This is a congregation member who is not an Elder or Staff member. They will often function as a spokesperson for the team, but the team as a whole is responsible for the ministry.
Elder Liaison→ This will usually be an Elder or Pastoral Staff member (possibly a Deacon). Their role is primarily that of shepherding the team through encouragement, equipping, resourcing, and communication between the team and the Pastoral Staff & Session.
Team Members→ Are what makes the teams into teams!! These folks are not merely there to do whatever the Team Leader says- they are fellow "owner-operators" who work together in mutual submission and partnership to accomplish together the vision of the team.
5th – Each team is responsible for stewarding any assigned budget, facilities, or other resources according to all procedures established by the Session through the Church Administrator.
