Thinking Teams
Thinking Teams
Are "teams" simply a cooler, non-presbyterian way to say "committees"? Absolutely not! They are different in key ways that we've spelled out in our Ministry Teams section of the web site. For one thing, teams are about both "tasks" and "people". Listen to how Michael Anthony in The Effective Church Board describes how these 2 things come together in a good team:
"Clearly, there are many benefits of operating a ministry as a team venture... There is also a shared sense of ownership in the ministry, accountability and decision-making, and freedom for idea sharing, all of which provide the church with more creative approaches to programming. Team ministry also lightens the burden of overworked staff members, helps the average person in the pew understand the importance of serving the Lord by serving His people, and provides all members with a degree of recognition for their contribution and help."
Let's pray and work together to see that become a reality in our individual experience and corporate ministry together!

Words are important so calling them teams instead of committees is a nice action term. I also like the owner/operator picture. I had a pastor years ago who tried to get us members to act like employees rather than customers. I think that was a good analogy as well. We are certainly not the customer. The world who don't know Christ are the customer and also ou brothers and sisters who we try and serve as well. I am encouraged after today's worship and festivities.
