Vision of Missions

The Mission of Wellington Presbyterian Church is the Great Commission.

Psalm 96 begins: "Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples." The greatest exhibition of God's glory is the Gospel-the story of God sending his Son not to condemn sinners, but to be condemned in the place of sinners!

This news that a person can be reconciled to God through faith alone in Christ alone is the best news anyone could ever hear. Therefore, the greatest way to glorify God is to take the Gospel to a people who have never heard it.

The Lord has given us a burden for evangelism and church planting in our Jerusalem (people near us, like us) and our Judea/Samaria (people near us, not like us). Our vision is to plant three churches in our region by the year 2008.

But he has also given us a special passion for the ethnic groups of the world who still, at this point, 2,000 years after the coming of Christ, do not have access to the Gospel. Most of them are located in urban centers in a very difficult region of the world called the "10/40 Window" (ten degrees North latitude to forty degrees North latitude from Eastern Europe to the Pacific Rim).

We will not be satisfied until the Gospel reaches every person and a church is planted in every ethnic group in the world. We count it the greatest privilege of our lives to send our best "to the ends of the earth" for the glory of Christ. Our vision extends as far as the Gospel needs to go.
